The proposed addition to a house on Block Island begins from the idea of bridging between two prominent volumes. Main living functions will move from the existing house into the proposed volume, and the existing house will become a guesthouse, separate but connected to the new. Within the new volume, there is an arrival, a collective welcoming of guests, a moment of passage, and a departure towards the respective host and guest private spaces. Openings in the addition allow for views of the landscape that are tied to activities within the house.
